The Role
Tesla’s Power Electronics group is looking for a skilled and motivated Electrical Design Engineer to join Tesla’s growing drive inverter design team. They will own design engineering tasks to keep our production line running – everything from bringing up new vendors to debugging field failures. This is a role that will require you to wear a variety of hats. It's an exciting work environment with plenty of engineering resources and bright colleagues to collaborate with.

Responsibilities:
•Working on drive inverter failure analysis and reliability improvement
•Manage 3D CAD, 2D drawings, and BOM in both CAD and PLM software
•Design validation and engineering test plans for new designs and vendors
•Be the design representative for yield excursions and disposition of non-conforming parts
•Identifying and tending to potential and actual part shortages or quality issues, and own product improvements and design revisions
•Participate in DFMEAs and PFMEAs
•Collaborate with other mechanical, systems, electrical, digital control, manufacturing, industrial design, and test engineers to take designs from prototypes into mass production
•Working closely with global team regarding engineering cooperation, components validation and projects timeline
Requirements:
•BS or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
•Strong understanding of inverter electronics, especially power module and its manufacturing process
•Experience with high voltage power semiconductor selection (IGBTs, Si/SiC/GaN MOSFETs and Diodes), design of gate drive and analog/digital sensing circuits
•Experience of supervision of PCB layout for minimal stray inductance and capacitance, placement strategies for better manufacturability, power/signal plane definition and EMC optimization
•Proficiency with basic EE tools (oscilloscopes, network analyzers, signal generators etc.)
•Proficiency with debugging digital and analog electronics for power electronics systems
•Proficiency with statistics and data analysis
•Excellent communication skills, both in presentations and in writing
•The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced and challenging environment
Preferred Skills:
•Knowledge in basic control theory, including importance of sensor bandwidths, design of compensation networks
•Knowledge in basic control theory and experience with embedded programing
•Experience in PSpice or equivalent electrical circuit simulation tools
•Experience with PLM systems, engineering changes, deviations, BOM structuring, etc.
•Experience working with PCB assembly houses in high volume production
•Experience with environmental, reliability, safety, and industry standard requirements for automotive products
•Knowledge of design for reliability and design for manufacturability concepts
•Working knowledge of MATLAB and/or Python
•Familiarity with high voltage mechanical design
•Fluent in the English
